I’m Pat Preston: audio engineer, guitarist, music producer, songwriter, band manager, and registered (formerly full time) primary school teacher.
I founded The Shen Co. in 2022 as a means to immerse myself in music and offer a space for others to learn and play. Since then, my small business has evolved into something much more - Shen Productions.
Today, with the assistance of an incredible team behind me and having studied Audio Engineering at SAE Creative Media Institute, Shen Productions has been able to: teach hundreds of students how to play guitar, host multiple concerts showcasing local and young upcoming talent, and help a variety of artists bring their musical ideas to life in the studio.
I’m a guitarist with twenty years playing experience. Over the years, I have constantly changed my playing style and experimented with different genres, learning techniques and theory along the way. As a teenager I loved to play metal over everything else. Later, I took more to playing blues on the acoustic around a campfire. Since then I’ve enjoyed exploring whatever caught my ear. Some of my favourite artists to jam to and draw inspiration from at the moment are: Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles, Ocean Alley, Metallica, Queen, Jimi Hendrix, Parkway Drive, Pink Floyd, The Chats, Sabrina Carpenter, Lime Cordiale, Parcels and The Doors.
As a full time primary school teacher from 2014-2022, I became well-practiced in sequencing learning effectively, while catering to all students' individual needs. I believe music lessons should be tailored to suit what students are interested in, while providing tools to extend their skillset. Lessons are available in a variety of music related fields.
As well as playing guitar, I’ve always written and recorded music. In 2020 I had time to re-evaluate what I found to be most important in my life. I decided to take music much more seriously, and as a result formed the band Shen Panthers with lifelong friends and family. We’ve enjoyed recording EPs and touring Queensland and interstate together playing festivals such as Caloundra Music Festival and Rockhampton River Festival, as well as Run to the Hills in Mt Hotham!
